Seit 70 Jahren wird Erdöl aus dem Niger-Delta im Osten Nigerias nach Europa gebracht. Bis heute ist das Land kaputt und die Menschen und die Tiere krank. Das Öl ist längst in deutschen Fabriken und Autos verbrannt worden. Die Bevölkerung in Nigeria ist arm geblieben. Heute zerstört dieses freigesetzte CO2 unseren Planeten. Um ihren Widerstand dagegen zu brechen sind heute vor 28 Jahren Nordu, Daniel, Baribor, Saturday, John, Paul, Barinem, Felix und Ken aus dem Volk der Ogoni von der nigerianischen Regierung gehängt worden. Seit Jahrzehnten sabotieren AktivistInnen die Ölpipelines Vorort. Vor 30 Jahren protestierte das Volk der Ogoni zu hunderttausenden im Osten Nigerias gegen den Raubbau des Erdöls. Sie kämpften für ihre kulturelle Autonomie und die Sanierung der Umwelt. Damals hat Shell das Öl für Europa und Nordamerika aus Nigeria geholt. Shell konnte das tun, weil Europa den ganzen Kontinent davor zu seinen Kolonien und damit handlungsunfähig gemacht hatte. Letzte Woche reiste der Bundeskanzler von Deutschland selbst nach Nigeria, um den Raubbau von Gas dort voranzutreiben. Der Bundeskanzler versprach ein paar Jobs und ein paar Anlagen für die 200 Millionen Nigerianer. Die nigerianische Regierung versprach dafür abgeschobene Flüchtlinge aus Deutschland zurück zu nehmen. Jeden Monat werden jetzt schon Geflüchtete aus Deutschland vor den Flughäfen in Nigeria auf die Straße gesetzt. In Nigeria kann man nicht gut leben, wenn man arm ist. Millionen wollen von dort fliehen, weil das Land im Kolonialismus kaputt gemacht wurde. Nie wieder konnten die Menschen ihr Land reparieren. Regierungen, die Ressourcen aus Nigeria exportieren bekommen Geld und Waffen dafür. Die Menschen dort braucht man in Europa nicht. In Deutschland sollen Gasleitungen durch das ganze Land zu den Industriestandorten gebaut werden. Stuttgart ist so ein Industriestandort in dem dafür Elektroautos gebaut werden. Die Zerstörung der Natur hängt mir der Zerstörung der Lebensgrundlagen in den alten und neuen Kolonien und dem Elend der Abschiebungen zusammen. Profitieren tun die Firmen und Regierungen, die vom Raubbau bis zum Endprodukt beteiligt sind. Die nigerianische Bevölkerung muss unter ihren schlechten Regierungen leiden. Unsere Bevölkerung bekommt Elektroautos dafür. Wir pflanzten letztes Jahr in der Kleinen Wildnis einen Apfelbaum, um uns am Widerstand der Ogoni für den Erhalt unser aller Lebensgrundlagen ein Vorbild zu nehmen. Der Baum ist ein Zeichen für den Widerstand in Nigerias Wälder. Seine Äpfel ein Zeichen für unsere aller Lebensgrundlagen. Seine Blüten eine Aufforderung an uns, uns für den Erhalt unseres Planeten und der Menschen einzusetzen.

For 70 years, oil has been brought to Europe from the Niger Delta in eastern Nigeria. To this day, the country is ruined and the people and animals are sick. The oil has long since been burned in German factories and cars. The population in Nigeria has remained poor. Today, this released CO2 is destroying our planet. To break their resistance against this, 28 years ago today Nordu, Daniel, Baribor, Saturday, John, Paul, Barinem, Felix and Ken from the Ogoni people were hanged by the Nigerian government. Activists have been sabotaging the local oil pipelines for decades. Thirty years ago, hundreds of thousands of Ogoni people protested in eastern Nigeria against the overexploitation of oil. They fought for their cultural autonomy and the rehabilitation of the environment. Back then, Shell took the oil for Europe and North America from Nigeria. Shell was able to do this because Europe had previously turned the entire continent into its colonies and thus rendered it incapable of action. Last week, the Chancellor of Germany himself traveled to Nigeria to promote the overexploitation of gas there. The Chancellor promised a few jobs and a few plants for the 200 million Nigerians. In return, the Nigerian government promised to take back deported refugees from Germany. Every month, refugees from Germany are already being put on the streets outside airports in Nigeria. You can’t live well in Nigeria if you are poor. Millions want to flee from there because the country was destroyed by colonialism. The people have never been able to repair their country. Governments that export resources from Nigeria receive money and weapons in return.
The people there are not needed in Europe. In Germany, gas pipelines are to be built across the entire country to industrial locations. Stuttgart is one such industrial location where electric cars are being built. The destruction of nature is linked to the destruction of livelihoods in the old and new colonies and the misery of deportations. The companies and governments that are involved from overexploitation to the end product are the ones that benefit. The Nigerian population has to suffer under their bad governments. Our people get electric cars in return. Last year, we planted an apple tree in the Little Wilderness to take the Ogoni’s resistance for the preservation of all our livelihoods as an example. The tree is a symbol of the resistance in Nigeria’s forests. Its apples are a symbol for the livelihoods of us all. Its blossoms are an invitation to us to stand up for the preservation of our planet and its people.
